NOTICE OF IMPLEMENTATION OF
DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN
STAGE II - MANDATORY WATER USE RESTRICTIONS
The customers of La Joya Water Supply Corporation are hereby notified that La Joya WSC is implementing Stage II of its Drought Contingency Plan as of June 15, 2006. All customers are required to follow the following Mandatory
Water Use Restrictions:
- Irrigation of landscaped areas by means of hose-end sprinklers or automated sprinkler systems shall be limited to between the hours of 12:00 Midnight until 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM and 12:00 Midnight and to:
- Mondays and Thursdays for water customers in the Green Watering Zone No. 1, south of Expressway 83 from west of Inspiration Road to east of Starr County;
- Tuesdays and Fridays for water customers in the Yellow Watering Zone No. 2, north of Expressway 83 to 3 Mile from West of Inspiration Road to east of Starr County;
- Wednesdays and Saturdays for water customers in the Red Watering Zone No. 3, north of Mile 3 to Mile 8 from west of Bentsen Palm Dr. to east of Starr County;
- Sunday dry day for all three Watering Zones.
Hand-held hose, a faucet-filled bucket or watering can of five (5) gallons or less, or drip irrigation system is permitted at anytime.
- Use of water to wash any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane or other vehicle is prohibited except on designated watering days between the hours of 12:00 Midnight and 10:00 AM, and between 8:00 PM and 12:00 Midnight. Vehicle washing may be done at any time on the immediate premises of a commercial car wash or commercial service station.
- Use of water to fill, refill, or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools, wading pools, or “jacuzzi” type pool is prohibited except on designated watering days and between the hours of 12:00 Midnight and 10:00 AM, and between 8:00 PM and 12:00 Midnight.
- Operation of any ornamental fountain or pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes is prohibited except where necessary to support aquatic life or where such fountains or ponds are equipped with a recirculation system.
- Use of water from hydrants or flush valves shall be limited to maintaining public health, safety, and welfare.
- Use of La Joya water for the irrigation of golf courses, parks, and green belt area is prohibited except by hand-held hose and only on designated watering days between the hours of 12:00 Midnight and 10:00 AM, and between 8:00 PM and 12:00 Midnight.
- The following uses of water are defined as nonessential and are prohibited:
- wash down of any sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surfaced areas;
- use of water to wash down buildings or structures for purposes other than immediate fire protection;
- use of water for dust control;
- flushing gutters or permitting water to run or accumulate in any gutter or street;
- failure to repair a controllable leak(s) within a reasonable period after having been given notice directing the repair of such leak(s); and
- any waste of water.
Penalties for Non-Compliance - First violation – Written Notification.
- Second violation – Fine of $27.15.
- Third violation – Fine of $45.25.
- Fourth and Subsequent Violations – Fine of $54.30. La Joya shall also discontinue service at the meter for a period of seven (7) days, or until the end of the calendar month, whichever is LESS. The normal reconnect fee of the utility will apply for restoration of service.
